Seat Post Lubrication
#1
Hi all,

Apologies if this is a duplicate, but Search turned up no similar questions.

I'm looking for recommendations how to properly lubricate an aluminum seatpost that will be fitted to a titanium frame. Any other prep work I should be doing?

Thanks in Advance,

Andrew

Be careful that you do nothing to introduce metal filings into the seat tube--on some designs the particles may find a path into your bottom bracket shell.

you might want to wipe out the seat tube first, just in case there are any leftover metal shavings from the manufacturing process. then i usually just put a thin layer of grease all the way around the entire part of the seatpost that will be inside the seat tube. because it's not a moving part, you can use any inexpensive grease instead of wasting good drive train or bearing lube on it. i personally use RiG, which is only a few dollars at most sporting goods stores and is good for all sorts of sporting equipment (i, in fact, do use it on my drive train and bearings and it works great for that.) just remember you don't need a thick application, a nice thin even layer is enough. i wouldn't recommend oil because it tends to drip down into the seat tube and may not protect against the potential chemical welding that you're trying to prevent.

After getting your seat properly adjusted for your comfort wipe off any excess grease.
Good maintenance to your Bike, can make it like the wheels are, true and smooth!

Thanks, everyone. And so the adventure begins! I'm sure I'll be back with more questions as I build this frame up. First time ...
