Using Ultegra triple shifter for double crank
#1
Anyone ever use an Ultegra triple shifter with a double crank? It is so easy to swap FSA MegaExo cranks that the only think stopping me is the the front shifter. I don't have the double in hand yet -- pending my hearing about your experiences.

Offhand I can't think of any reason it wouldn't work, you'll just end up with one click that does nothing. Give it a try and let us know how it works!

You may run into a couple things...
a) not 100% sure but your Ultegra triple shifter may not have a 'trim' shift (a half shift that slightly moves the front derailleur cage) in all of it's 3 gears
b) if your bike came with a triple crank it will most likely have a longer BB to accommodate the 3 rings which you should also change to have ideal chainline. Also, your rear derailleur on a triple is usually a long cage which will work with a double just not ideal

long story short it may 'work' but in my experiences it's worth changing the shifter, BB, and rear derailleur for nice smooth and efficient set up.
