Hey everybody,
New to world of cycling, recently my bike started to not shift as smoothly as it was before so I thought I would check to see if the cable was frayed. I detached the RD cable and inspected it, found no issues relubed it and re attached the cable. Since I have done this, my shifter will only click 7 times, and I have a 9 speed so it should click 8. I’ll walk you through what I did.
1. I shifted the chain onto the largest cog in both the rear and front Derailer.
2. I then cycled the shifter without pedaling to the smallest rear cog.
3. With the cable now slack, I remove the cable from both the rear cable stop and front cable stop.
4. I Inspected the cable, and made sure it was seated properly into the shifter.
5. I cycled the shifter in both directions and I have 8 clicks
6. I cycled it again in both directions to make sure the cable moves freely.
7. I cycle the shifter so that it would be in its highest gear (smallest cog)
8. I reattach the cable to both stoppers.
9. Cycle the shifter to the lowest gear.
10. Finally with the rear derailer in play I cycle the shifter in both directions but I only get 7 shifts.
The RD moves from the highest to lowest gear, but it skipping the number 2 and 8 gear and again only allows me to shift 7 times in both directions. I have tried detaching and reattaching multiple times and the situation has not improved. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
