Electric bike battery problem
#1
Hi,
I have an electric bike and the battery stopped charging. It's a Viking battery

http://www.parkersofbolton.co.uk/p-4301-viking-e-go-hopper-eco-stepper-e-co-electric-bike-replacement-battery.aspx?catargetid=1928184933&cadevice=c&cagpspn=pla&gclid=CMGSx5KH7LsCFejpwgodgkAAiQ.

The charger has been tested and it works compelety fine-it works connected to the mains.I also ruled out fault with battery itself as I was able to use the bike until the power run out.Now I cant charge it anymore . I opened the battery and I think problem is with the socket of the battery where the charger goes in - maybe the wires have detached from the battery unit inside.Im still unsure what the problem can be and i rely on your advice or suggestions.I took some photos of this socket -one from outside and few of the inside . There was a loose ring around it.Please help me with the suggestions how to fix it myself/what piece is needed to make it charge again.Sorry, Im not an expert i dont know correct names of these parts .I cant really afford repair service.I would be very grateful for your help.
Anna

Kind of hard to tell and load test on the battery would be good. If you have a Sears automotive center they will do this for free.

However it looks like the harness has two wires one connected to the round washer and one to the center contact. It seems that the washer should be pushed down around the plug , that's the ground, and the center connection needs to be cleaned. Spray some cleaner like electrical cleaner or wd40 will do in a pinch on the connection than gently pry up on the spade connector (do not pull on wire), and clean both well with an old toothbrush dipped in cleaner and reconnect.

See if that helps. However battery's do need periodic changing and connections need to be clean. Good luck.

We are not an electric bike list, there may be other lists out there.
Never Give Up!!!

Very hot or cold temperatures can negatively affect the the performance of the battery and shorten its expected life. Avoid storing and charging you battery in a garage or shed that could be subject to really hot or cold temperatures. Instead, charge and store your battery in a moderate temperature area.

Sometimes the battery will fix the problem if you open it and re-tighten all connectors. My tip is to avoid extreme temperatures. Very hot or cold temperatures can negatively affect the the performance of the battery and shorten its expected life.  Avoid storing and charging you battery in a garage or shed that could be subject to really hot or cold temperatures.  Instead, charge and store your battery in a moderate temperature area.

Failure to accept a charge is the usual symptom of end of life for a lithium battery. If any one cell differs from the others then the circuit board in the battery will shut down the entire battery. This is done to prevent fire or explosion. What to do? Open up the battery and identify the one or more faulty cells and change them out. None of this is easy and the problem may recur as other cells age. Even replacing every cell might not work as new cells vary quite a bit and should be match selected-----a process many rebuilders skip.

I noticed that some e-bike owners don't really know how to charge an electric bike battery. They make so many mistakes like over-discharging the battery, ignoring manufacturer guidelines, using incompatible chargers, neglecting regular maintenance, and exposing to extreme temperatures.
