[attachment=3770]Here is a new pic of baby at my office building. Yes ..she is my commuter and used her all spring and summer. Stopped commuting about 2 months ago just because of the darkness in the mornings. Can't wait for Spring to come to start commuting again. I will be upgrading the rack soon and get her some fenders as well.

Looking EXCELLENT. Smile

We've missed you; glad to here from you again.

Fenders: SKS and Planet Bike are nice, strong and light. Sunlight fenders are less expensive, but much heavier.

Yup, nice ride! I envy anybody who can commute bike bike.
Fenders: I second Nigel's suggestions on the SKS, they are also not too difficult to install.
Darkness: You should get some lights so you can ride in the dark! I really like hub generators on commuters, they are very reliable (don't slip in moist weather, no batteries to run low). Paired with a decent light (e.g. b&m Lumotec) they enable you to ride through winter. Depending on road conditions where you live you also might want to invest in a set of studded tyres to have some traction on ice...

I have bought a lot of stuff for commuting in the dark. Headlights, Tails, wheel LEDs, my commuting helmet has a flasher on the back I got neon /glowing bright color clothing...you name it!...but I just dont feel safe enough. I did commute a bit when it started getting dark but stopped as soon as it got real dark. I thought about the studded tires as well because I don't mind the cold weather nor the snow too much...I am just affraid of getting hit by a car. Sad

I was wondering exactly what size of fenders I need..I get kinda confused with all the sizes they have out there.

Will any of these fit my Schwinn?... thanks

What size are your wheels and tyres? Are they 700c or 27"?

I really like the SKS Chromoplastics, not the cheapest, but probably the best full length mudguards (fenders) you can buy: http://www.sks-germany.com/?l=en&a=product&r=mudguards&i=6409800121&CHROMOPLASTICS

They are still fiddly to fit though. Sad However, once done they stay put, are really sturdy and all the metal parts are good quality stainless steel, so they don't rust. I've had a set on one of my bicycles for 4 years and they are as good as new.

Hi Giulianna;

The two auctions that are active will both fit your bike.

I have both SKS and Planet Bike fenders on different bikes, they are very comparable, like BMW and Mercedes Benz.

The auction for the Planet Bike ones is too high a price:
http://www.amazon.com/Planet-Bike-Touring-Hardcore-Fenders/dp/B0041X5ZX4
http://www.amazon.com/SKS-Longboard-Coverage-Bicycle-Fender/dp/B004I8XS18

I would not pay more the 1/2 the new price for used items; except for collectors items.

Do u have any specific rear rack that you would recommend?...I don't need nothing really expensive I would say that the heaviest weight I would carry "sometimes" would be no more than 12-15 pounds. I just carry sometimes my lunch and a few water bottles and a jacket or shirt , besides spare tube and multitool. I have a U-lock but I dont carry it because I store my bike inside the building next to my office but I am cosidering taking it with me sometimes if I plan or need to stop somewhere to buy something on my way to or from home. I have sen a lot out there but again not sure which one will fit. Do I need a special tool to install the fenders and rack?...because I want to try to install them myself before going to the LBS that I am sure will charge at least $20 to do it.

It should fit. Do you intend to use panniers or just bungee a bag on the top?

If you're going to use panniers, consider one that has rails that hold them lower, it makes the bike a bit more stable if you do carry a fair amount of weight. I have one of these: http://www.madison.co.uk/productinfo.aspx?vertical=Cycling&tier1=Accessories+%26+Extras&tier2=Pannier+Racks+%26+Carriers&catref=KAM1002, I'm not sure if it's available in the US, but I'm very pleased with mine, it's really solid and sturdy, whereas the one I had previously was quite wobbly.
