Please help me identify my bike!
#1
Hey folks, I'm brand new to this forum and I'm after some assistance in working out what this frame exactly is. This bike was my late grandfathers, I've worked out that he must have purchased it between 1946 and 1953. The frame has a 4 or perhaps 5 digit serial number on the lug which intersects the seat tube and top tube. As the frame has no front badge all the details I can provide are based on componentry. The bottom bracket is an english made one with 'bayliss wiley' cups and a 'T.D.C'. spindle (i'm told these brands were interchangeable). The headset and stem is japanese made but with english made bearings. The wheels are 28" with writing stamped in them that says D.M.B. SPORT. It is a single speed with a freewheel. I noticed that the bike has rear forkends and not dropouts.
If you think any more information would be useful please ask.

Those are horizontal dropouts, which is what made me think track bike however you said freewheel? Are you sure it's a freewheel and not a fixed gear?

This may not be much help at all, but some manufacturers have used a 4 or 5 digit number to identify the day, month and year something was made. The 1466 could possibly be 1966 with a Julian date of 14 or possible 1966 with January 4. Without knowing who made it, we can only speculate though.
