Pros and cons of a Dropper post

I am looking to upgrade my bike and am also looking at the option of a dropper post.

What are the pros and cons of one?

Basically, at the end of the day, is it worth the expense?

Any thoughts would be great

Pros
1. Helps you lower your center of gravity when descending
2. Can increase your confidence on trails

Cons
1. added weight
2. price may vary
