Sources of free Bicycles

Hello all,
I wanted to start this thread as there are many people out there that unfortunate and can't afford to buy a new bicycle. I figured by starting this thread everyone could chip in and offer maybe places and ideas where to start to look for bicycles that may need some repair or may not need any. Here is one contribution to get this started.

These guys have a bike recycling program in Vancouver Canada, there are many other community bikes programs, look for one near you.

I have been to that shop and still don't understand how it works. Students are working on their bikes and buying used parts I would guess? Others are working in smaller spaces and preparing bikes for sale I would guess? There was nothing in the parts bins I saw worth buying. The new parts were the same as a LBS. I know it is a non profit. 
Are the owners collecting salaries? or is it a all volunteer effort? There are lots of local bike shops all around them.

Hello Bill, you've surely created a great thread. Could you point me out where on the Trashwiki they're actually sharing bike related information like the way you mentioned in the post.

Two other sources:

1. Craigslist... the "For Sale/Free" section. But you have to be diligent and very quick to reply.

2. Transfer stations. If you live near one. They're for temporary storage of local/municipal trash before it gets hauled to a sorting facility or landfill. Some people drop off their unwanted stuff knowing the employees will set it aside.
