Are String Drive Bicycles a Genius or Terrible Idea?
#1
I don't have a string bike, but I think it is a good concept.

The only way to really know what I think, would be to ride one for a while.

String weighs less than a chain, so hypothetically the bike could be light. There should also be less losses to friction. It might be better with a cable to make it stronger.

There could also be other modifications.

Looks like a crazy indie concept to me. Some kind of mod on the Gates Belt Drive. Compared to a chain, having to run that internally geared hub is going to be heavier. Less has legendarily proven itself as more; but is this actually less, or is it truly more?

I'd have to try it myself to compare the versatility to a normal bike; with cassette options; and an oval chainring.

Can't say I'm sold on the points it presents, but I really like the Berd String Spokes.

Those look amazing and the weight you save is just tremendous.
