Lights

Hello Guys,

Am new to cycling and have taken up a new job where I have to cycle 2.6 miles to nearest train station and back again.
However this is down country lanes so its very dark and sometimes pitch black in areas.
Now i know this is a relatively short journey, 15-20mins its taking me atm, second week in.
However the lights i bought were cheap from Sainsburys and well the front one isnt very bright.
Having looked online there is a lot of variance in style, bulb type and cost.
So can someone recommend a set of lights that they think will be bright enough and a reasonable cost.

Regards

I guess you have clip on, battery powered lights, not wired to a generator. Basically, you get what you pay for. I have a Sigma Kalmit, usually quite bright enough for me. I also have department store brand ones (two similar sets) that are bright for about an hour. I also have a front wheel with a hub generator (for a different setup), which is the best option for commuting. No batteries to worry about, the batteries of my department store lights died on me. Twice within a fortnight. And the replacement headlight's battery was also dead.
I can recommend Sigma's products, their (German, dunno for other countries) customer service is very helpful. I broke my handlebar mount and they just sent a replacement, no charge.

There's lots of good lights out there. Planetbike seems to be one of the top brands right now for performance/value. http://www.planetbike.com/page/learn/lightfinder

Hi

I am not a fan of "bike lights" as in the ones sold for bikes at the low end as I prefer to be seen and to see, hence I currently run with Fenix L2D on my commutes. That said battery life is less than ideal.

Fenix rocks! I have the E20 model on my mtb. Checkout the P7 Led Lenser too!
