I like Administration Rd which goes up the south side of Mt Wachusett. About 1.0 mile; no bikes allowed (at least last time I was there, hiking is okay), so don't tell anyone! Meets up with the summit road (about .75 mile paved) to finish the climb. About 750-800 feet of elevation to from start to summit. That doesn't include the 6 miles ride of rolling hills to get to the start of the big climb. It makes for a healthy and traffic free (cars and bikes) ride of about 15 miles round trip with an unforgiving descent down Admin. Rd which is pretty much an old washed out logging road. I haven't done it in years because of not having the proper bike. Just summiting on paved roads at present.
