Folding bikes for heavier riders
#1
hello. Any suggestions for a folding bike (brand) that can handle about 300-310 lbs?
A good friend wants one but has no clue about bicycles in general.

I don't know if they make bikes for that weight in a folder, but check out Dahon's and BikeFriday's websites. They make folders that could easily handle over 200 lbs; I just don't know what their weight limit is. 300 lbs is a lot for a solid frame bike never mind a folder.

Check out Flatbike's "CHANGE 611", or "CHANGE 811"; those models supposedly hold 300 lbs or more. It is probably one of the largest folders on the market being that it needs a larger frame and it uses 26" wheels (making for a more comfortable, better handling, safer, and faster ride). Still very lightweight for a folder of that size; alloy frame, carbon fiber fork, disc brakes= NOT CHEAP!

A quote from Bob Forgrave of Flatbike: "Weight on a "CHANGE" bike is no issue. All the force distribution of a standard diamond-shape frame applies here, unlike a folding frame with a single bar. And it also has Mavic wheels. That’s why it can pass a 600lb downward force stress test. We routinely have truckers in the 350-400 range inquiring about these. And we had a pilot jump the folding mountain bike version at high speed on a trail, fully loaded with panniers–definitely not recommended, but also proof that a lot of downward force is OK."

Thanks for the great info, it will be forwarded.
I have heard about Bike Friday (at first, wrote Black Friday and had to edit hahah) from friends this week but Flatbike is an unknown brand to me - one to investigate.

Weekend greetings, enjoy!

Lectric XP 3.0 has a weight capacity of 330 lbs.

And Tern HSD P9 can carry up to 375 lbs.
