Front derailleur rubbing on middle gear
#1
I just picked a Trek 1500 SLR with low miles. It’s in great shape but when I shift from 3 to 2 on the front gears the derailleur rubs pretty consistently. If I shift front 3 to 1 then up to 2 there is no rubbing on either gear.
I’m guessing it’s a cable tension thing but I really don’t know. I don’t think it’s a limit screw problem since the chain stays on anytime I shift.
Thanks.

sounds like a binding issue, could be caused by an inner cable starting to fray. release and inspect housing, end caps and cable for fray and distortion and binding. one other note, you could have a trim click in your shifter. Make sure if that is the case it is being used properly

What Painkiller said! Certainly seems like the indexing is out of adjustment. Make sure you don't a lot of cable slack when on the smallest front gear; tighten it up if you do before making index adjustments.
