Modernizing my Fuji Gran Tourer
#1
Hello Everybody,

Basically I’d like to modernize this bike but I need advice as an amateur bicyclist. I’d like to replace the vintage shifters with some flat-bar?upright (shimano?) brake/shift levers or thumb shifters. similar to what you see on hybrid MTB’s.

I recently started taking this bike apart as a learning experience/project.

Components known now are:

- SunTour 6 speed freewheel (unsure how to measure and know which one) I have taken this off with an FR2 Park Tool.
-SunTour V-GT Luxe rear derailleur
-(Pretty sure broken) “v comp” front derailleur

If I replace the derailleurs with shimano and get thumb shifters for the flat/upright will I be okay? It's been a headache trying to figure this all out on Sheldon Brown.
