Quick question newbie [Solved]

Help? Bought my son his first mtb a hyper havoc. It has Shimano twist shift with the traditional 7 options on the right.... But instead of 3 ranges on the left there are markings and labels indicating high and low, I think an additional 7 ranges? How does this work for shifting?? Thanks so much.

it has multiple indents to trim the front derailluer from rubbing the the cage in certain cross gears, more like a friction shifter vs an indexed shifter with 3 indents

That's a new one on me. I'm glad somebody knows. I could have used that shifter on my hybrid. Never could quite get the triple derailleur adjusted so it didn't sometimes rub on the cage.
If I knew how to ride a bike properly, I'd do it every time.

I had a similar H-L grip shifter on my first bicycle (with triple chainring), but I haven't biked with a one like this since those days - almost two decades ago. Brings back memories. When I was a kid, these shifters were always resembling motorcycle grips Big Grin
