Disc brakes in road cycling? yes/no

I'll try to revive this section with hot topiccc that attracts most of the pro cycling fans.

Couple weeks ago had seen this from U23 Paris-Roubaix race in France: http://www.cyclingnews.com/news/disc-brake-said-to-be-cause-of-serious-injury-at-paris-roubaix-espoirs/

Is not the first case with disc brake rotors causing injuries. What are your opinion? Should disc brakes stay out of competitive road cycling? Are all these accusations nonsens? Is it even rotor that caused the injury?

Wow that's a nasty cut!! :o I do road rides with a friend who has disc brake Canyon and I have nothing against individual riders who use them even though my friend said that he does not feel the difference disc vs. v-brake yet after 4-5 rides Big Grin I feel that in a group ride sharp braking can be more dangerous and cause panic or crash for others around. But is the disc really at fault with this guy's cut? Are there others who have suffered from disc brakes with cuts like this or injuries?

What a classic discussion.

I remember when spanish cyclist Ventoso injured himself at the pro Roubaix couple years ago, which triggered UCI's temporary 1/2 year (as I remember) ban on disc brakes. There were some reports questioning whether it was actually disc brake; found one good report here: https://www.wfsgi.org/system/files/2017-02/Report_DiscBrakes_UZollinger.pdf).

Yas, that's the the thing. I am not sure how a disc rotor can cause such injuries. Can it cause some burns on your leg? Yes, if you're not careful enough and touch it immediately (yes, it was me this week) after jumping off the bike post-downhill. But deep cuts like these? Naah

Imho disc brakes belong on any bike. Road cycling|racing in general is a dangerous sport, just take Froome as an example. If you can handle disc brakes, it actually adds extra safety. You can get a cut like that on chainrings or by falling flat on the road.
