Schwinn S Saddle Pan Cracked
#1
I have a Panther III and the saddle pan is cracked. Do I buy a newly manufactured saddle or buy the vintage saddle on ebay that is a match? My worry is that if I buy the vintage seat the pan will crack sooner rather than later.

Any comments are appreciated.
Hopefully this link will get you to the photos of both bicycles I am cleaning up. https://www.flickr.com/photos/121016477@N03/

If you buy a new one and hope to sell the bike as a collectible I would think whoever bought it would subtract at a minimum the cost of a vintage saddle from what they are willing to pay. I would imagine it would not turn over as quickly either. It's really your decision how to handle it.

Good point about resale. I'm thinking about getting it TIG welded with a reenforcement but the upholstery and padding would need removed.
(I am not thinking about selling currently but does not mean it would not happen in the future.)

Get a newer saddle to be able to ride the bike; keep the original, and look for another original for that time in the future when you do sell.

I think this is a good idea Nigel. Thank you! And, I will go to the Schwinn Forum. :-)
