Question about fenders

I hope I'm putting this post in the right place, my question is about fenders.
What should I look for in a set of fenders for my bike, a 26" mountain bike which I use for commuting? The price range is very wide, I've looked at clip ons for as little as $7.00 to around $60.00 for ones that mount to the bike more permenantly.

That depends on the type of riding you do. If you ride a lot in the rain than full fenders are best. For occasional wet rides the short fenders do the jib of keeping spray off you.

Check what kind of mounting points you have on the bike, especially if you have holes for the attachment of supports close to the axle.

You disregard the 26" and 700c spec for both; the fenders are flexible enough and have long enough stays to go either way. It is a good idea to cut off the excess stay length after you have everything adjusted. I use bolt cutters to do that.

I have tried and still use other fenders such as SKS, Planet Bike and Sunlite on other bikes. These Pyramids look like copies of Planet Bike fenders - and the stays are interchangeable.

+1 for nfmisso's first choice. I have the planet bike version, 3 sets. I leave them on one bike year round.
Not for off roading, debris will get lodged in there & you'll be fubar.

And please note that Jef said "...you'll be fubar."; not that the bike would be.

If you want to run fenders off road - look at how motocross motorcycles' fenders are - many inches of clearance.

Common in WW II along with snafu. Fubar was "fouled up beyond all recognition". Snafu was "situation normal, all fouled up". We like to substitute another word for fouled!
"CF" or "cluster" is more modern and uses naughty language, as in Cluster F**k.
