Hands numb
#1
Finding that my fingers and thumb are getting numb on the cervelo,Real numb. When I I try to shake some feeling into them they stay numb. When I get off the bike completely, within 15 seconds all is well.Anyone else have this happen? Any suggestions?

You need some different hand position options - try raising, lowering or tilting the handle bars, and/or moving the saddle forwards or backwards - by a VERY small amount - 1/8 inch or less.

sounds like the "Death Grip Syndrome". In your case, do not change a thing with your seat or bar position. Just relax your grip and move hand positions from top to side to the drop more frequent. this will not affect your trials with the fitting solved. your age, and will fade with time. as you move from position to position it will distribute blood flow in a more even fashion and you will acclimate with time.

Moving hand positions, holding bar lightly, using foam bar tape, all help. However you need to make sure you have good ergonomics. Make sure the riding position is set up so that your wrist is straight. The carpal tunnel in your wrist when compressed will pinch nerves and cause numbness. Make sure this is not the problem as serious nerve damage can follow.

Shake and move your hand frequently, wrist straps help keep wrist straight. BUT set up ergonomic first.

Thanks for the replys,
Am going to try the hand position change. Talked to the guy who fit the bike, he said to go out and ride 30 miniues in the tops only going to the middles when shifting and see how it feels. Then report back to him. If need be he said will refit. Good guys.

Hey Guys,
I have the same problem, but while riding my MTB.
The bike is a Gary Fisher HooKooeKoo in my size with straight bars. Got it used and feels great while riding. I tend to want to grab the grips/bars at my fingers/knuckles while riding on the smooth sections and when it gets bumpy, I then grab with my hands. Most of the trail is very rooty and bumpy, so I am gripping with my entire hand most of the time. At one point, my hands were so numb, that I couldn't even feel the thumb/index finger shifters and brake levers.
Since I am prefering to ride on my fingers/knuckles... does this mean I probably need some bars with some rise in them(the neck is adjusted as far as possible)?... and how much rise do you think I need (1"-2")?... or do you think it is something else?
Thanks !!

Update:
Changed the grips to some ergo-type and adjusted the bars by twisting them up in the neck some. I'll give this a try... If any other advise is available, I'm listening....

That was the trick... Sometimes you can answer your own questions.........  DUH !!!
Rides like a totally different bike, just by adding some ergo grips and adjusting the bars a little... WoooHooooo !!!!!!

It's likely starting at the cervical spine, not where the numbness is. The spinal nerves continue down the arm from the neck to the brachial plexus to the fingertips. Chin tucks, cervical traction, and neck massage could solve the issues. Without muscle testing, I can't be sure that the other solutions may not work, too- all valid, but I'm coming from the physical medicine side of neuromuscular therapy.

Numb hands may occur from gripping very tight, for some time.

I like double handgrips, which gives them a larger diameter. These may reduce numbness.
