Fuji Allegro - Brake Cables
#1
I'm putting my plan together to fix up a Fuji Allegro, and I'm curious if I can tuck the cable housing for the brakes under the handlebar tape, or if it must be above. Not a deal breaker either way, just curious if it is a functional idea.

You can get shorter cables, 6" less or so.

With those brake levers, no, you cannot run the cables under the bar tape.
Depending on what you mean by "fix up", you can get brake levers that will allow this and will give you better braking as well for not very much. What you need are "aero" levers. If you're just doing a basic clean up of the bike, new cable are not a bad idea as well as new brake pads and high quality tires.

They also should run in front of the handlebars, not behind. They'll be out of the way of your hands and give a cleaner path for the cable that way.

My plan was to clean the bike, replace the chain, tires/tubes, brake pads, cables/housing, and handlebar tape. I have a newer road bike that has the brake and shifter cables under the handlebar tape, so I was curious if it was possible with these brakes since the cables seemed to attach differently.

At this point I am trying to keep the expense to a minimum since this is the first time that I have done this.
