1977 Raleigh 26tpi BB and Chainset

I've had a Raleigh Silver Jubilee since it was new in 1977. The chainset needs replacing. I have not been able to find a replacement that gives anything like the correct chain line. Can anyone help?

The alternative would be a shorter spindle. The original was a 126mm 5s. I can't find anything shorter to fit the 70mm frame. It probably needs to be about 116 mm. Help?

If a shorter spindle is not available I could replace the existing bearings with a cartridge but I can't find anything 26tpi for a 70mm shell. What would you suggest?

You mean.. the chain rings are worn out? ... (those the front gears).

FYI: crank sets vary a good deal on how they mount and fit to the axle... giving different spacings away from the frame.. as it were. Usually their 'close' per width for mating.. but at times frustratingly NOT. And axle/spindle widths are not standardized per distance they move the crank out from the frame.

Are those chain rings removeable? If so.. just replace them. Not difficult if their BCD is common. Even uncommon BCD's can be had in the after-market.

Another idea comes to mind.. if there the rings. And if replacing the front rings a new chain and rear cogset is a good plan. One could go 7 sp rear with 126 spacing..too.
