Crankset for a 3-speed
#1
Hi all,

I'm building a 3-speed path racer style bike using S-RF3 Sturmey Archer Hub.

I'm curious if you can share any input on the choice of chainring size or type of cranksets to consider. I'm looking a 44T or 45T 170 chainring, singlespeed fixed gear crankset.

I have moderate knowledge on how different sizes effects my gear ratios though I'm not certain if I'm overlooking anything.

Any input would be appreciated.

Take a look at:

how many teeth are on the gear on the hub?

Gear inches - 100 is quite tall, good for down hill or with a very strong tail wind; it is the same as 52x13 with 32-630 tires.

30 is low enough for hills that you might encounter on almost all paved roads.

I have 18T on the hub.

This calculator is interesting! Thanks for your input Nigel.
