Help! New bike trainer
#1
Hi all,
I recently received a bike trainer as a gift for christmas. With the bike trainer there was a quick release skewer for the back wheel. However, the back wheel of my bike is bolted on. Is there any way that I could just switch it out or even just leave it?

My apologies if this is a dumb question and for the lack of fancy terminology, as you can probably tell I am a complete newbie when it comes to bikes. I have tried other forums but it's like trying to read a different language Smile

Thanks for the help and happy holidays!

Trainers are geared towards bicycles with quick release skewers. they supply a standard heavy one to use in case you have an expensive carbon/titanium or alloy skewer that would break or merely not fit the trainer very well.
I have suggested in a previous post a fix that i think will work in your case, I never tried it myself as all my bikes are not nutted axles. I had hoped the other poster i had recommended this option to would have posted whether or not it worked for them. But I assume that it does if done correctly. So i will tell you to figure out what size thread your axle nut is and go buy 2 Acorn/cap nuts. I would look for stainless steel ones so they stay nice for a long time. and a couple washers just in case because you bottom out the acorn nut before getting your wheel tight. you are replacing your existing axle nut with the acorn nuts, got it. they are similar in shape to the ends of the skewers and should clamp right in. I ask please, when you do this to come back and tell us how well it worked
Like I told the other guy, this could be your/our million dollar idea to market. so if it works and you like it just remember Uncle Bobby PK
when you make it to the big time ! Smile

If it's a Tacx trainer, there are bolts available: http://www.google.co.uk/products/catalog?q=tacx+trainer+accessories&hl=en&newwindow=1&safe=off&bav=on.2,or.r_gc.r_pw.r_qf.&bvm=bv.1355534169,d.d2k&bpcl=40096503&biw=1393&bih=1061&wrapid=tlif135653021403910&um=1&ie=UTF-8&cid=3739912333313666687&sa=X&ei=2APbUKadOKS-0QWy04GYDg&ved=0CHQQ8wIwAzge
