Inner tube/valve problem
#1
Hi There

I keep getting flat tyres on my front wheel. I've noticed that when I am cycling the valve is pushing to an angle, the force of this pushing with no where to go is creating a hole in the inner tube (at the join of the valve).

I've replaced quite a few inner tubes now but the same problem keeps happening.

Has anyone ever experienced this before? Is there anything I can do to keep the inner tube still in the tyre?

Thanks,

It sounds like there is a metal sharpness what is known as a burr causing it to puncture the inner tube. Take off the tyre completely and the inner tube. If there is a rubber piece on the inside of the wheel remove it too. Feel around the area of which it gets punctured to see if this is the problem. If it is then the metal burr will need to be removed by sanding it down with sand paper or in the event it is inside the hole use a round file to lightly grind down the metal burr to a small surface.

The things I can think of that would cause this is if you keep your tire with too low a pressure or if the tire itself just fits very loosely on the rim.

I would try higher pressure if it isn't already near the rated max. If that doesn't do it, maybe try a new tire. But if it keeps slipping like that, I suspect it's going to damage any tube. Do check for burrs as Bill mentions above, but I think you've got to stop the tire slipping around to really cure this.

Ugh Dave, I didn't think about that. Thanks for throwing that in. Glad there are other points of view. Wink
