Derailleur Trouble
#1
Hi all,

Desperately desperately need some help asap as I need my bike to get to work on and my next shift is tomorrow afternoon.

Riding home tonight all was well with my Boardman Race until I got to literally my road. Slowly taking it down the gears (So that it was easier to set off and get going the next day) I discovered it would not go down the gears.. Very strange!
I've had a good fiddle and I'm the first to admit I'm no expert, I've got a feeling it's a simple fix I just have no idea what. So far I've adjusted a few screws on the rear deraillier and made sure all the wires are nice and tight. The most I can get out of her is down one gear, no more.

Any ideas?

Much appreciated.

If it has worked before (sounds like) the setup was (in general) quite probably correct. To me it sounds like a frayed or bent cable somewhere. When did you last change cables and housing? Are you riding a lot in bad weather?
First, recheck the housing and the cables. Do the ferrules and cable ends sit in their "cups" correctly? Can you see any kinks in the housing or frayed cable strands? Then, loosen the connection of the cable to the dérailleur, see if the dérailleur can move freely. Then, check if the shifters pull the cable. In the end: Remove cable form housing and shifters and inspect it.
