1999 Schwinn Searcher LE
#1
I found a his and hers posted for sale locally and thought I would go check them out even though the name went south after these were made. picked them both up because the price was right, frames were made by Giant, CroMo tubes, one owner. $140 for the pair. I always love a solid platform to build from and these fit the bill, a bike to be updated/upgraded and fall in the three hundo range when finished. Both bikes need a frame off refurb. I started with the x-Large guys bike first. I made my list of what needed to be done to bring it back from the dust and into an awesome bike for the money compared to a new bike, plus a few nice add ons along the way.
Now the plan, gut like a deer on opening day! New lockon grips, new Platform pedals, new cables/housing, new brake pads, rebuild flex stem, new shifter/brake lever combo, new rear derailluer, new rear rack, new barends, and 2 new water bottle cages. Clean and polish everything else.
One of my best friends refurbishing bicycles to be 95%+ perfect when finished are my ultrasonic cleaners, 1 for removing rust and 1 for cleaning/degreasing. they work amazing and fast all while I can move on to other tasks.
The bicycle is finished and will be posted for $250 which after the test ride it will surely sell its self. It is probably much better of a bike now than when new. It looks, rides, handles amazing! plus with all the extras and updated pieces a great deal too. These were the last of the good Schwinns, I love how the frame style pays homage to the vintage I grew up with as a child, with the rear stays lean towards Schwinn Homegrown bikes.
