Old Schwinn single speed, sprocket ratio

I have an ole Schwinn cruiser (1963). I've been told the crank is not original.
It is a knee killer and I'm wondering if it had a smaller gear on the front or larger on the rear when new. It has 46 teeth on the crank and 18 on the hub.
The Schwinn forums are closed so here I am.

Hi Al BUNDY.

I think I had one of those way back as a kid. A lot can be changed on a bike over 50 years. I was lookin' at the 1963 Schwinn Catalog and the photo looks pretty close to what you have there. Have a look. Smile

I actually see a difference. Where the arms come out of the chain ring in your picture have a nice curve where as mine abruptly bend 90 degree.

I found another Schwinn forum I will try there also.
