Chain scenario
#1
I recently had a chain snap and had a new one fitted. The cassette is a 9 speed, and the grip shift is a 7 speed. A mechanic used to be able to throw on decent parts for cheap; however the mechanic at the time put on new gear cables then went to tune in the gears and said that he couldn't do it because the shifter is different to the cassette. Basically leaving the bike semi ridable. Any solutions?

1. Put a 7 speed cassette on it with a spacer (4.5mm?) to take up the extra space. ($25-$35?)
2. Get a set of 9 speed shifters ($70+)
3. Get some friction thumb shifters ($10+)

If you just replaced the chain, probably good to replace the cassette anyway unless it was very new. So option 1 probably kills two birds...
