Vaseline
#1
Hi

Just started building bikes, and watching the helpful tutorials, but I was wondering, is Vaseline a good lubricant for bearings? It is fairly water resistant and thick.

Any help please.

I think vaseline tends to thin rapidly from friction and heat. So...no. Still better than WD-40 though. If you want something cheap, get automotive wheel bearing grease. It's about $3 for a big tub that will last years.

Hi James,

Vaseline does have its uses on the bike tough. I use a little on the Allen Bolts for the Vee brakes, cable clamps etc as its helps keep out the moisture and prevent rust inside the bolt hole. Just my minor input!

Another place for vaseline - inside your shorts.<br />
Works a treat on long hot sticky rides.

Ride hard or ride home alone!

Your talking about anti-chaffing, well guess that would be a use. They are selling stuff for that over here in the US now. Can't remember the commercial.
Good maintenance to your Bike, can make it like the wheels are, true and smooth!
