Another project - Miyata 310

UPDATE

Sorry no pictures.

After much soul searching, and measuring; I decided to go with ISO590 Sun CR-18 rims on the Suzue hubs.

I put the Tektro 536 brakes on the Schwinn World Tourist (work okay with ISO630 rims, will not reach to ISO622); freeing up the Tektro 559 brakes for the 310 which will reach the ISO590 rims Smile
And thus keep the stock mounting of the brakes.

Wheelsmith spokes and CR-18 rims have been ordered, along with Kenda tires, TR tubes, and other minor items. If all goes well, will be finishing this project in August.

Got the wheels assembled today: Sun CR18 rims are nice, Wheelsmith spokes and nipples, Suzue hubs. The CR18 rims are round and true, finger tight on all the nipples, and the assembly looks good Smile Next weekend is tensioning, trueing and stress relieving.

sounds good nigel, still want some pics though. I found a home for my Univega. It is a lot like the miyata and I love it. but i just had to many things going on and time to let someone else have a go at her.

I am still learning Smile Tweaked the handle bar angle/position a bit, now need to undo the tape and re-position the cross levers..... Lesson, do the bar tape AFTER test riding to make sure everything is positioned to suit.

I am trying different mirrors to see which suits me for a drop bar.

I am going to try a 25-590 Schwalbe tire on the front (85 to 145 psi). The bike feels heavy and dead. On my World Tourist, I had 32s front and rear, changed the front to 28 and it made a very noticeable improvement. I have also ordered some 28/32-590 Schwalbes from a European dealer to try.

....nice build Nigel.. Being an old guy, the only thing I would change are the handle bars. I would go to the Fat bars they use on Hard Tail bikes for more comfort and better weight distribution.

Thank you.

This is the bike I am building (have been for years now) to determine if drop bars will work for me.  If yes, my Trek 620 will get drop bars, if not, it will get flat bars or trekking bars.  I prefer my bars to be saddle level to slightly below for better weight distribution and less back strain - makes my shoulders and arms work harder, with the benefit if much less back strain.
