No Bill, in fact it is a "Tesco Value" local supermarket cheapo speedo bought for about £5, in fact I went out today and it wasn't working, it's done its job well for a year or so, maybe the battery has gone but I really should get a decent one!

Definately Dirt-worthy! Deore LX is one of my fave rear drlrs!

If I may ask, saucerer... I've seen guys run with the rear hub skewer on the drive-side before but, never thought to ask why. So - Why?
Is your caliper in a bad location for the skewer lever to not be exposed to snagging open?

I've always wondered this same thing. I just figured they put the skewer on the wrong way or something, but maybe there is some underlying meaning for it.

That's how the bike came to me when I bought it, do you think I would be better off changing them round?

Yes Sir. The lever should be on the Left side, both front and rear, unless there is a design issue.
To be honest, though... it's one of those "just because that's the way it's done" thingys. They're not less-effective if installed backwards.
