Replacing chain with different brand
#1
Bike: Novara Safari, Shimano Deore Crank, Chain: Shimano HG73, Cassette: SRAM PG950 9sp.
Reluctant to replace chain since bike is only transportation at moment. Want to replace the HG chain with SRAM or Wipperman 9sp chain that has masterlink. Specs usually show them as .2mm wider. Are these other chains compatible?

Yes they are compatible. The masterlink makes it easier to remove the chain for cleaning & repairs.

sumguy,
Go for an SRAM PC971 – it’s reasonably priced these days and I’m sure you’ll like it with the easily removable gold coloured powerlink. You could get the partner to your cassette which is SRAM PC951 (power link of course) and indeed a little cheaper but not by too much these days. See what you think about the prices…
Do remember to cut to the right length…
