How carbon bikes are made.

I ran into this web site last night while clicking on links from a LBS page. Very interesting video. Until last night, I had never heard of or seen a Guru bike, but they are certainly not cheap. The factory is in Canada which is why they were featured on "How It's Made" on the Science Channel. I watch that show all the time but must have missed this one.

same here,watch it all the time. very interesting show for those who appreciate all things mechanical. makes you wonder how someone came up with the ideas for some of the manufacturing. always wondered how they made carbon frames.

After posting this, I met a guy that does carbon fiber work for race cars and they build quite a few things out of it. He told me that the tubes they make are made in the same manner by wrapping the carbon material around a metal form. The tubes are then heated with the epoxy injected into the molds and then when they dry, the forms are removed, leaving the tubes hollow. I guess that is the same process that they use to make the top. down and seat tubes and the seat and chain stays before gluing everything together.
