Single/3spd Chain Suppliers
#1
I was reading another post when this kind of jogged my memory. Does anyone know of a supplier that still carries the old 3 speed/ single speed chain? They are of course much bigger then the new tiny ones.

any bike shop should have one, they are 1/8" width and are used on BMX.

Bill. What color you want?
Check out the KMC site. You can get 1/2 x 1/8 - or - 1/2 x 3/32 in everything from Hot Pink to Fake Rust to Rainbow.

I should have gave a little more detail, sorry. The ones I mean are the ones that came with 50's and before bikes.

Bill. Are you talking about a Half Link chain? Rather than individual wide outer plates and narrow inners, they have each plate 'stepped' between pins?
KHE and Spank make them. KMC makes them too. KMC calls them Pintle chains.
KMC is probably what you're looking for if you're doing a restoration and intend to keep it "period correct". The KMC number is Z710NP.

Yea I think do think those are the ones. The older styles were much "bigger" looking then the newer ones by today's standards. I will take a picture of it when I get time, might be later this week though. But thank you all so far for the help.

As far as I understand it the old single speed chains were 1/8" and dérailleur chains were 3/32" wide. (back in the sixties. Smile )
And yes they are still available.

Although there is a mixture in there.
