8, 9, and 10 speed hubs
#1
I'm looking at buying some Shimano hubs that are stated to be for 8, 9, or 10 speed. I want to use them on a hybrid that currently has an 8-speed hub and I'd like to keep it that way as I don't want to upgrade the derailleurs. What do I have to do to use a hub such as this as an 8-speed?

Nothing. The 8 speed cassette has the correct width for that hub (as far as I remember). You only need to use a spacer when using a 10 speed hub, they are narrower. All (almost all?) Shimano 8 speed hubs can be used with 8, 9 or 10 speed cassettes.
