Front Derailleur Problem

1. If you disconnect the cable altogether, where is the front derailleur, is it over the smallest chainring, or over the largest?

2. Does the cable come up to the derailleur, from underneath the bottom bracket, or down the seat tube?

Also, if you can upload a picture, that would be helpful.

It's on the smallest gear.
