1987 Tommaso Alloy lugged frame

I worked on this over the winter/early spring and just got in a good test ride on it. One forgets how light these things were (at least with tubs). 1987 (frame built in 1986) Tommaso TA 5000 Record Aluminum Sprint kit configuration with ALAN's lugged alloy frame design, anodized matte black tubing and "natural"anodized lugs (same bike as a Guerciotti GA 6100 Sprint). Not too fancy for the era considering the paint work in the 80s, but it looks much better than the TIG welded stuff later on. Tubes are screwed into the lugs with glue applied. Kitted with: Campagnolo Victory/Triomphe road group w/6 spd racing cluster, 53/42 rings; Ambrosio cockpit, 25mm tubs. Installed Welgo clipless over the original Campagnolo cage pedals and Profil aero saddle are the only non-OE parts aside from cables/housings, tires and tape

I managed to find an 88 Tommaso catalog, and 85 Guerciotti catalog showing the 2 bikes. Looks like color is the main difference (both bikes were only offered in one color. Both brands were distributed by Ten Speed Drive Imports (TDSI) which operated out of Florida and California.

I had a similar if not the same model Tommaso; I do have the same bike, but Guerciotti badged Alan frame; essentially same original gruppo mix.

Presently posting another project while too hot for my normal riding (only managing about 50 to 75 miles/wk). So now online for a couple weeks until my northern excursion to cooler weather and actual hills over couple hundred feet. Modified my lo-pro for climbing and longer saddle time after an endo (continued ride) on my all-around rider which tore up the fork threads so rebuilding with fork of another donor bike (different brand and country, but who cares if it works) once alignment is checked.

Those particular Alan frames were used by many brands during that era. Vitus 979 alloy frames were another oft rebadged lugged aluminium frame. If purchasing either used I would avoid CX models and models of larger sizes due to the stresses from rougher terrain and heavier riders. I would never purchase those frames (being held together by 40 to 50 year old glue!) unless able to personally inspect the frame for lug cracks and/or tubing separation. I doubt you can replace the lugs or get them reglued; if possible it will not be cheap!

Can't really tell from the pictures, but the specs indicate Campy rings were 64/40! I wondered what you all thought were the biggest improvements or innovations for road or mountain bikes since these times. Over 40 years I think precision shifting and lighter frame and wheel materials. Going from steel to cro/moly in the 80s, was huge for me.
