Chain lube
#1
Hey there,

I currently am using Muc-Off dry lube and was wondering the opinion on this. I reviewed the video on chain lubes and will probably be getting the Finish LIne Cross Country if the Muc-Off isn't very good.

Thanks

There are lubes made for different road conditions. Everyone has their favorite lube. I was advised to use Rock N' Roll lube. I've used it for four or five years and think it's great. Rock N' Roll do a few different lubes for different road conditions, but I use the red one. Apply it, liberally, spin the pedals a few times to evenly spread the lube and then wipe the chain clean. It's made to clean the chain as well as lube it. I do that, and then when I check it, later, it has a film of lube all over the chain. It's not waxy, but has something else in it.

I clean and lube my chain every 100 miles, which isn't really necessary for the kind of riding I do, which is on dry pavement. The chain on my 20-speed fat bike is now 5,000 miles old and in excellent shape. I use a Park measuring tool to check it each time I lube it.

Rock N Roll Lube
If I knew how to ride a bike properly, I'd do it every time.

I used finish line wet weather stuff in Norway. Worked good for me, even under the nasty conditions in Western Norway (cold wet winters with heavy use of salt on the roads). Cleaned (rubbed down with some soapy rag, then left to dry (inside....), then lubed as Charley described it) the chain sometimes every other day because of the conditions, in the (wet) summer about every week, maybe fortnight in dryer weather. Worked for me, chain (105/Ultegra level) lasted the winter, usually.
