Trying to remove pedals....wtf
#1
Ok so long story short ive been trying to remove a pedal for a while now. Never have been able to. Today i decided to try an idea from a family member....heat the metal, then try to loosen it. And when i did, THIS happened. And I STILL can't get the mofo unscrewed. Any ideas?

I have removed lots of pedals without ever running into that. You know, I presume? that the left pedal loosens clockwise? opposite to the right pedal.

Looks like there's a steel insert inside an aluminum crank arm.
Yes, first thing is to make sure you're unscrewing the right direction as left pedals have reverse threads.

One thing you can do now that the crank's toast anyway - hack saw a cut into that steel insert as far down as you can without damaging the pedal. Then put a big screwdriver in the slot and give it a wack. You may be able to crack the insert or at least loosen it enough to unscrew the pedal.

What size nuclear plasma torch did you use on that?
Unfortunately now you're looking for a new crankset.

Lol i used a little bic lighter to heat it. It appears that someone had previously repaired it and thats what it looks like with the rubber cement lookin stuff melted. And nah, this was off a parts-bike, that i was trying to take the pedals from to put on my main bike. So the crank is of no importance.

Ah, so if you can, put the steel insert in a vise and try again.
Or hit up Wallyworld.
