Deore shifter problems
#1
Hello,
I've got a Trek MTB that the Rapidfire shifter works great on when going up the gears, but when I shift down, it either shifts two gears up or not quite one gear up. Mainly does this in the middle gears(8 speed). The end points are right on and everything is adjusted properly.
What do you guys think the deal is with this??
Thanks,
PJ

If the cable tension is adjusted properly, the next thing I would check for is a bent derailleur or hanger. Also look for cable housing that is kinked, splitting, not fitting properly into stops, etc.

You can clean & lube the shifter, or replace it. This is a common issue. If you look in the Repair Guide at the top of the page there is a video about it.

Well, I lubed and it is still shifting up two gears or either a half gear... Oh well, looks like a new one is in the future...
Anyone have a good used one they want to part with?? It's a Shimano SL-MC20.
Thanks!!,
PJ

Everything here looks fine.
Thanks!!,
