Introduction

Newbie here
Just wanted to introduce myself. Retired USMC got into speedskating and bike riding in the late 80's. became more involved in bike riding as a cross training for skating. I had the opportunity of a lifetime to do a time trail against former Tour De France winner Greg Lamons. All divisions were invited. Top two from each region, but as luck would have it Greg had a hunting accident, and the time trial was no more. I continued to ride and do local time trials and road racing. Trained with a couple of bike clubs (Never joined) . Retired in 96 (burned out) my younger brother is big time biker, and I would love to go on some long-distance rides with him before we get too old to ride. He has done the tour across America and has just completed the tour of the U.P here in Michigan very proud of him.

Awesome introduct @Return rider. If you're keen to do long distance your brother sounds like a top Go To and on here @GirishH will be able to give you some great advice.

Give it a go. Even if you don't succeed, you'll feel far better than if you never ever gave it a go

Welcome @Return rider.

Truly a well-lived life—and what’s even more inspiring is your refusal to let the body rest. Keep pushing! Smile

If yo are dreaming of long-distance rides, just go for them. You probably know this better than I do ( a non-vet): our bodies are far more capable than we think.

While looking for partners to ride across the U.S. and beyond, I met riders with debilitating injuries who still planned to cross the country before their conditions made it impossible to balance or ride. Meeting such people reminded me not to let my own dreams fade—especially since I have no health issues or family obligations..

I’m truly jealous your brother did the Upper Peninsula ride! I’ve only seen photos—and I’ve always been envious.

Would you like me to make it sound more casual and conversational, or keep this polished but natural tone?
