Buying a used bike
#1
Hello,

I am looking to upgrade from a pretty old Kona Kikapu to a new all mountain full suspension bike. I have found two on Facebook Marketplace and can't decide which one to go with. I'm looking for input from anyone that has some knowledge of either bike.

I found 2016 Santa Cruz tall boy. They are selling it for $1350 but it also has a broken derailleur. I'm not worried about the derailleur (that's an easy fix) but I am worried about potential issues that could be associated with a broken derailleur (screws stuck in the frame, etc.). I know how to replace the derailleur, but nothing about what the break could have affected.

I also found a 2020 Canyon Neuron for $1000. The seller doesn't report any issues and says it has been well maintained.

Does anyone have any input on either bike's performance/price?

Sorry, can't give any info on those bikes' performance or price, but do suggest that if they're mountain bikes, check out the frame. Even a micro hairline split should be seen before you buy.

Hope it works out for you Smile

@Steffen, welcome to Bikeride.

What did you end up buying?

@Flowrider's suggestion to inspect the frame is spot on. My friend had a Canyon mountain bike—carbon frame. It developed a crack after a single spill. Fortunately, it was still under warranty and he got it replaced.

I do not have specifics about the model and such but can find out if needed.

So yes, very real issue.
