Whats in your portable toolkit?

I figure I would touch base with what everyone uses for tool kits while riding, commuting, touring, etc.

Hello. Lol on the beer . That's good combination. What ever bike I am going to ride I usually look over the sizes of bolts/nuts...
1.only pack those sizes needed (small cone wrenches)
2.tube repair kit
3.allen/hex wrench/key (only sizes fit the bike)
4.small pump/CO2 cartridge (its a dual action)
5.spoke wrench
6.small bottle of tri-flow(they sell them in pen size)
7.needle nose pliers
8.strait edge and phillip shorty screwdrivers
9.my homemade tire levers
10.amount of ball bearings for front and rear wheels already greased up in a ziplock baggie
11.Chain break tool (with extra links)
12.Pair of non latex gloves for the greased bearings.
13.Hose clamps (in case of frame break- I will write a post for this)
14.Spare Tube (most of the time I don't, BUT SHOULD)

** Note on the greased bearings is that you would not wanna go too far without a complete overhaul they just get you far enough to get them fixed!****

I take only the minimum in a small saddle bag:
- Multitool (a cheap one)
- inner tube
- pre-glued tube patch
- tyre patch
- CO2 cartrigde (small pump on the frame)
- spoke key
- tyre levers (a decent set by Schwalbe or Park)
- screw terminals for quick cable repair

I probably should get a multitool with a chain tool and pack spare links but I have never had problems with a chain (yet...). I don't know why I should want to pack ball bearings, The bearing is supposed to stay closed.

Thanks for posting this thread. I haven't even thought about a tool kit, ever! Better now than when I really need one.

Small hint is sometimes when I am out and about I will look at garage/yard sales, flea markets, and even ebay on small stuff. Here is a drawer of cone wrenches I picked in decent deal ... 5.00 I think.. These are the type of wrenches I would pack in a kit with the other stuff.

This thread inspired me to put together an emergency toolkit for my bike. I have a set of tire levers, a patch kit, and a CO2 inflator in a small under-seat bag. Sometime I'll add a small multitool to it. Hope I never need to use the kit but I don't want to be miles from home and have to walk my bike home because of a flat tire.

On my MTB rides I generally take:

Water
food (flapjacks, etc.)
Tyre levers
Spare tube
Pump
Shock pump (I have an air fork)
Cheap multi-tool (6 Allen Keys and two screwdrivers)
Spoke key
First-aid kit
cash (for the inevitable trip to the pub )

I carried around a 10mm Allen key for a while as one of my mates found he had a crank bolt that kept coming loose on him (it nearly fell off on a particularly hairy descent) so we had to tighten it fairly often. He's finally managed to replace the cranks/BB, which seems to have fixed it so I don't bother anymore.
