Picked up this old goat for $60, just thought it needed saved from the dump and knew i could give it a new life. These were great old steelie hybrids and great platforms to build upon. Paint not in super bad shape, couple scuffs here and there but will clean and polish up nice enough. I think I will do a parts bin retro mod upgrade build to save some money and make the bike better than when it was new is the plan. Some new tubes, tires, chain, pedals, grips, cables/housing should round it out nicely. here are some before shots of what I have to start with.

gaining some progress on this build, I am doing sort of a retro mod build on this. Going thru some parts bin components that can be refurbished to grade-A condition, higher end stuff from around 1989ish for the f/r mechs, brakes/pads, shifters and levers. All the good stuff that just keeps on going, built like jewelry and last for many more years. A bike that just cannot be built today unless you build it yourself. As it stands right now I am into it for a little over $620. If you spent $600 back in 1989 that would equate to over $1500 today. If you spend $600 today you would not end up with a bicycle of this quality at all. High end 7speed bicycles are a thing of the past and in all honesty all the bicycle most people really need. That is why I do what I do, even with cars older is better to me.
A little talk about pedals and why I chose these. number one they are better than stock, number 2 is they are priced reasonably @ about $26. Most parts like this come out of China just like a lot of bicycles do even from the big names. So I like to try out stuff to see how good they may or may not be. I have no cons really about these pedals, smooth as butter, triple sealed bearing, Alloy cage, Replaceable pins, this is the good part, you can set them up as a dual-purpose pedal, by reversing the pins you can have a more aggressive grip on one side of the pedal such as for single track use and a not so aggressive pin setup on the other side of the pedal kind of a cool feature that can be done with these pedals because of the way they are built.
The build is coming together slowly being only able to work on it in my spare time but here are a couple pics of the progress and a closer look at the afore mentioned pedals, and the wheels and rear cluster reconditioned up quite nicely I might add>
