Would you be scared to ride a bike on the moon?

Imagine the sick pump track that could be built there?

Anyone would be scared of hitting air so sick that you float away off into space?

If you can go over 5000mph then maybe you might get airborne enough to counter the gravity. Try it on Phobos at about 27mph, or Deimos at about 13mph which you can do on foot and go into orbit.

I usually hold onto dear life and apply breaks as soon as I hit 30-40 mph. So, if I have to go at 5000 mph then someone (Jesper) will have to take my brakes away..:-)

Thinking more about it, I might be ok as long as I am guaranteed not to fall back to the earth (injure myself or break bones) or land back softly...

The truth is, nobody on this forum is going to the moon. It is just one of those fantasy ideas.

Maybe not, just trying to have some fun.

Didn't intend for this to meltdown into a dreary refutal.

I stopped at "would you be afraid".

Interesting question. I think it's gravity that makes pump tracks so much fun. With lower gravitational force, yes you'd be able to jump higher, but you'd also have less help from gravity to generate momentum when pumping through rollers and in banked turns.*

*I think.

I would feel apprehensive about engaging in any activities on the moon, especially riding a bicycle. While the idea of biking in a low-gravity setting may heighten the thrill for some, I personally lack that adventurous spirit.

Another thought: tearing a hole in your spacesuit when you wipe out would really suck.

It would be almost impossible since you would have to wear a bulky pressure suit. Also with the deep powdered rock it would be tough pedaling.

If this were to happen, I would recommend a fat tired Trike.

That's why I have been a proponent of fatbikes..:-) How about a "tractor" tired fat-bike..:-) It would be tough pedalling but doable with enough training..:-)

I didn't see this when it was first posted and I want in on the action, I'm pretty sure the moon craters would make a nice pump track or trail right? haha what if there was gravity there and we can actually ride it normally like we were on earth? I bet the moon would make the biggest and most fun mountain biking resort haha
