Road Biking Mama
#1
Hello everyone!

Former road biker here from Colorado, now living in Nashville (humidity ugh..).

Looking to get back into the saddle after having a baby! She's a year old now, and finally big enough for a front mount seat.

Lots of new questions are buzzing around my head regarding safety with a child seat and choosing a more upright bike style vs the road bikes I'm used to.

Welcome Drew,
It would be best to start a new thread in the General Discussion forum so people see it. Right now you are buried in the "Mama needs a baby seat" thread.
Suggest you list as accurately as possible your part's and bike's: manufacturers, giving sizes, model numbers, serial numbers, years and/or date codes, and of course photos showing condition and details. Estimated value is often subjective; e.g. I use/ride/rebuild older pre- 90s parts/bikes which have more value to me, but less to someone rebuilding newer bikes. Granted older, "NOS", and rarer parts/bikes should have a fairly consistent "base" value. If you are planning on selling it still comes down to what the market will bear, be it locally and/or globally. You can look at sites like eBay, but be advised list price is not necessarily selling price, and sites like eBay cost money to list and sell so the prices are going to be inflated to greater or lesser degree to cover the sellers costs. Sites like Craigslist can be very inaccurate due to some extremely inflated asking prices, also extremely low prices by uneducated sellers or sellers just trying to "get rid" of stuff they may have been given for free/inherited, or need cash quickly. It's a slippery slope. I would try, based on my knowledge, to give you an objective value; but again it's all relative to various factors.

Take care,
Jesper

Welcome,

Since cycling is dangerous enough for the rider without a baby/child aboard, I have a hard time recommending using a carrier/seat for an infant. If your are primarily on a trail banning motorized vehicles than it might not be too dangerous, but out in traffic is a different story. At best I recommend the "trailer" style carrier since the child does have far to fall if something goes awry; you can add cushioning and the child is usually protected from the sun and the elements. I don't know what is better on the bike itself (front, rear, or body mounted); if the bike goes down so does rider and infant, so it is certainly a risky proposition. I don't think the bike type matters too much except for weight stability; the lower the center of gravity the better (but that is determined by rider more than the load, except on touring bikes) Regardless of what you decide to do, you still want the child to have a helmet on.

Take care,
Jesper
