Nishiki Gran Tour 15
#1
Going against my grain a little here. I will make a touring bike from this old (*1980's) Nishiki; triple Campy Mirage (black crankset maybe, though I think I'll need a "JIS" taper crank with the proper BB, length ?) and what ever else seems appropriate. Just starting to amass some parts. Not even sure what BB and headset I need as I have never built up a Japanese frame. Hoping my collective has stuff in the "junk" bin for it, trying to do a less than $100 build; so far under $40. I have a cockpit, pedals, saddle, post, derailleurs, wheels, rack; need BB, headset, ?cranks?, freewheel. Unknown tubing, steerer shows TANGE.O.F, front dropouts TANGE, rear dropouts SUN TOUR SD.

*Edit: found out this was made in 1980 per the serial date code.

That will be a nice riding bicycle when complete

Here are likely parts for this build. Missing headset and BB. May go with threadless adaptor or standard quill stem. The Cinelli would be a better length for my size and would look better. Modolo brakeset may be changed to an Asian set, then again the Modolos look and function quite well.

I think they are model PP65 (?); very early LOOK pedals, 1st gen. mid 80s. I am not sure, but I think they can be dated by the lack of a cover plate. They turn perfectly, thus they have not been dismantled; signs of use were very minimal. I use later types of this pedal with the same cleat. I may also use SPD style pedals on this frame if ridden in a mixed terrain event; that is if I can mount about a 35mm tire onto that frame (that's a different story).
