Components for Surly Long Haul Trucker
#1
Hello.
I bought a Surly Long Haul Trucker frameset and now I’m looking for a proper groupset. So I wonder if Shimano Deore T6000 3x10 26-36-48 Groupset (excluding Shift Levers) + Shimano Tiagra STI ST-4700/4703 2-/3-/10-speed Shift/Brake Levers + Shimano Deore BR-T610 V-Brake Set will be good options for this frame? Will these components be compatible between themselves?
Thank you for advance!

No, they are not compatible. Road and MTB used to be compatible up to 9 speed. You can still use a 9 speed MTB rear dérailleur with 10spd road shifters. This does indeed work. I would probably stick with complete Tiagra, they do have wider range cassettes nowadays. You can increase the total gear spread by changing the front chain rings. On my tourer I have 22/42 x 12-36 (SRAM). Enough to bike uphill with two kids in a trailer and full panniers, high enough for some speed when solo. No, shifting is not prefect and crisp in the front.

road bar levers can be used with cantilever brakes. While many do not like them, and they can be a faff to set up, the high end Avid cantis are easy to set up and work very well. If you really want direct pull (v) brakes you need to go for the shorties. But then good luck installing mudguards...

What's the intended use? This basically decides gear range etc.

Surly LHT is a sweet bike when built nicely!
Joe already covered the basic points and I have the same question - how are you gonna use it?
