My First Bike for Commuting

Hi all,

I am about to graduate with my degree and would like to bike to work since it’s pretty close to home. I recently got this fixed gear Schwinn Le Tour from a friend for free, however it is in poor condition. On reddit, I have been given suggestions as to what I should do. So far I have taken off the bar tape (it was really moldy), removed the brake levers (one was solid and one was jiggly) and removed the front and rear brakes. I’m on a budget since I’m going to college, but I have until June or so until I start my full time job. I am also planning on sanding the frame so I could repaint it as well.

So far I have purchased the following...
Front and rear Tektro Oryx canti brakes
Shimano Single Freewheel
Sram single speed chain
Tektro brake levers
Brake lines
Bar tape

Are there any other necessities needed? This is my first commuter bike and project bike as well. Any very useful tools or tips? Some people have mentioned just buying a used bike outright, but I like projects and I have the time so I’d like to follow through with this before I think of getting another.
