Alex, I have a Specialized stump jumper that uses 26 x 2.1" tires. I want to do some riding on the roads, so I am looking for road tires. Can I use 26 x 2.125" tires instead?
Thanks,
Mark
Hi Mark,
If you are looking for road tires, narrower tires are faster and smoother. So you could use the 26x2.125 tires, but they are wider than your 26x2.1 tires so they would slow you down a slight bit. 26x1.75 or 26x1.5 with a street tread are great for road riding.
Alex, thanks for the advice! I will look for the narrower 26x1.75" treads.
Would it be possible to go to 26 x 1.25 tires in a case like this?
Sure, they'll be really fast on-road!
I know this thread is old, but have you any input on these tires: [broken link]
I ride to work most days, only about 1.8 miles, one way.
Thanks!
Those tires are certainly slick... you'll go a lot faster!

I have a bike with 26x2.125 tires and want to change to a (at least slightly) faster tire, ...more narrow and less knobby. I use this bike for training, strength and endurance, not speed, but want a little better tire. I tried 26x1 3/8 tires but they're too big in diameter. Would 26x1.75 or 26x1.5 tires fit a 26x2.125 rim? And any idea where I could find smooth road tires in those sizes?
Thanks a lot, sorry to be such a newbie on this whole subject.
Hey, I just put a pair of 26 x 1.5s on my bike. The ride to work today was great, alot quicker and easier. I didn't think it would make this much difference.
